The Benefits of Abhyanga Massage

Fantastic first day on the challenge yesterday. It was great to hear everyone loving their yoga practice and delicious recipes! <3

I love getting up before the sunrise to practice yoga. There is a deep stillness in the air and I can feel Mother Earth radiating her peace through the silence. After my yoga practice this morning, I treated myself to a full body abhyanga massage working from head to toe.

Abhyanga is an ayurvedic oil massage that is classified as an integral part of the daily routine recommended by this healing system for overall health and well-being.

Giving yourself a daily full body massage with warm oils is very nourishing and helps to pacify the doshas. It will help to release toxins from the body, increasing circulation and improving the elimination of impurities. The oils will absorb into your skin, leaving it feeling softer and smoother. You joints will benefit from increased lubrication, which will lead to better functioning. The muscles and the whole of your physiology will feel toned and healthy and you will experience increased levels of stamina through the day. Regular abhyanga calms the nervous system, increases mental alertness and promotes a deeper sleep at night.

Spend 10-15 minutes, lightly massaging the body always working towards the heart in the direction of the blood flow. Once the oil has been applied to the whole body, find yourself a comfortable seated position and meditate on your breath for 10 – 15 minutes.

Finish with a warm shower, feeling the water cleansing and purifying your whole body, mind and Spirit.

Pat dry your skin making sure not to rub off the oil, the oil will leave your skin feeling moisturized, radiant, smooth and glowing.

Make yourself a cleansing herbal tea. Take this time to connect with your angels, spirit guides and ascended masters and give thanks to what you are grateful for in your life. Ask for their help and guidance and spend 5 minutes listening to their divine messages, which you may hear, feel or see as visions. Stay in this peaceful space and keep the higher vibrational energy with you for the entire day! Namaste! <3

    This massage is an aydeurvic treatment, one has to be careful to use the right oil for the particular person, as Abhyangam has a heating effect on the body. If you have? much heat or pitta conditions, best to use coconut oil. This treatment as a self oleation can be done by oneself, using warmed sesame oil from head to toe. the oil is going into the deeper levels and is reaching after 7 days the bones. Daily self oleation creates immunity.. The oil should be kept for 30-60 min, warm bath follows
